Our priority is to support children who grieve the loss of a sibling.

A child's grief is unique. Children and teens grieve differently from adults and each in their own individual ways. Children who experience a significant loss often feel waves of intense emotion, periods of relative normalcy, and sometimes depressed moods. Emotions can be felt in the body and can be hard to name or find words to express. It is not uncommon for parents and caregivers to struggle to understand how their children experience grief and how to best support them.

Through SibsCARE at UNC, siblings are invited to Connect with others, Acknowledge their grief, Remember their brother or sister's legacy, and feel Empowered to move forward knowing they are cared for and supported in their grief journey.

SibsCARE at UNC is here to help siblings learn about their grief-related emotions and help adults in their lives learn how to better support them. SibsCARE offers:

  • One to one support with our skilled bereavement specialist

  • In-person events and outings designed to support self-expression and community

  • Virtual groups to empower effective coping strategies

  • Parent/caregiver consultation to equip you with the tools to support grief in everyday life

SibsCARE special events and activities are in the works!

If you believe your family would benefit from adding layers of support with SibsCARE, we would love to hear from you.
