Seasons to Remember

The annual Bereavement and Remembrance Event for UNC Children's Hospital

Seasons to Remember was created to offer support, connection, and healing for families who have faced the death of a child. Parents, grandparents, caregivers, brothers, and sisters each grieve in unique ways. STR is an event led by a team of individuals dedicated to offering a space for processing and healing. Activities are geared to caregivers and children alike, meeting the individual and collective needs of those who attend.

We look forward to seeing you at Seasons to Remember 2026 which will take place the morning of May 30 at the North Carolina Botanical Gardens in Chapel Hill. Additional details and registration will be available in early spring.

Our theme “Seasons to Remember” comes from the idea that grief changes over time. Like the changing of seasons, grief transforms within each person it touches. The transformations are unique to the individual, sometimes gradual, other times sudden.

Each season of grief can bring reflections of the beautiful love you have for your child. At times the beauty is difficult to see, especially through the seasons that feel heavy and dark. Seasons of grief can be long and relentless, accompanied by sudden and unexpected peaks and valleys.

Your grief is a reflection of the unending love that you have for your child. Seasons to Remember is a time to celebrate the legacy that your child left in this world, to share their bright light with others, and to acknowledge and continue moving through the seasons of your grief.

“The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you’ll learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same nor would you want to.”

Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
